Are you bothered by excess fat under your chin, also known as a “double chin?” Kybella®, the only non-surgical, FDA-approved injectable drug used to reduce double chin. If you are considering surgery to remove fat under your chin, this innovative treatment offers an alternative to surgery and incisions with the benefit of no downtime.
What is Kybella®?
This prescription solution contains a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that breaks down and absorbs dietary fat. We inject the solution beneath the chin to target and eliminates fat cells that cause a double chin.
What other areas can Kybella treat?
The Jowls. Jowls are fleshy parts of the lower face that tend to sag. This is due to a loss of elastin and collagen in the skin. By injecting Kybella into the face, we can permanently destroy fat cells so you can say goodbye to your jowls! Results are permanent.
The Bra Bulge. Bra Bulge are pockets of fat right under your armpits. This area can be difficult to treat with only diet and exercise, but Kybella can help! During this treatment, Kybella is injected into the areas under the arm to permanently destroy fat cells and get rid of that annoying bra bulge! Results are permanent.
Inner Thighs. Kybella is injected into the inner thighs to permanently destroy fat cells resulting in slimmer legs. Results are permanent. Usually this requires 2-3 vials per side each session.
What happens during Kybella treatment?
Once you are determined to be a good candidate for Kybella treatment, the cosmetic procedure is straightforward. A dotted grid marking the injection locations is placed on the treatment area and the solution is injected. Patients may feel a temporary burning sensation during the office visit.
How many treatment sessions do I need?
Each treatment is tailored to each patient’s personal goals, so the number of sessions varies by individual. Some patients reach their goal in 1-3 sessions. Patients can expect to receive the next treatment, if needed, a month in between each session.
How long does Kybella last?
This double chin procedure destroys the fat cells beneath the chin. Once eliminated, those cells can no longer store fat. When your aesthetic goals are reached, no further treatment is expected.
Are there risks and side effects of treatment?
Many patients experience side effects including, redness or bruising, pain, numbness, swelling, and areas of hardness around the treated area. These typically do not last more than a few days to a week.
Some patients have experienced more serious side effects, including injury to the jaw nerve, difficulty swallowing, weakened facial muscles, or an uneven smile. These effects resolve themselves in about six weeks or less.
